As always, we will update to the most recent version of Minecraft, we certainly will not be closing the server.
The best way to make sure we do not close Crafting Crafter is to donate, donating helps us fund the server and without our donors there would be no server today.
I'll start by answering some frequently asked questions:
1. How long does it take to update?
2. Will the map reset? If not, how can we find the new items?
3. Will I lose all my stuff?
4. Will I keep my current rank?
5. Will any worlds be reset?
6. Will the new 1.8 items be in the admin shop?
7. Will I keep my rank, items, faction, plots etc... if I change my username in 1.8?

Answers:
1. An update can take from 2 weeks to around a month and a half, the reason the time period is this wide and this long is because we need to wait for Bukkit and Spigot to release updated versions that work with the new update. Once those are updated, we also need to wait for all of our plug-ins to be updated as well.
2. No, we do not plan to reset any of our maps for this update. If something unexpected happens, we may need to, but the odds are that won't happen as it hasn't yet! You will still be able to find all of the new items and mobs being added in 1.8 because we plan to expand our faction and survival world maps by 2 - 4 thousand blocks.
3. No, you will keep your inventories, bases, bank chests, backpacks, factions etc.
4. You will keep your current rank going through the update.
5. We are not planning to reset any worlds, and will be making backups in case of any chunk problems before we update, in the case where there is an unavoidable problem, we will then reset the world. Do not worry though, this hasn't happened to us yet in the 2 and a half years Crafting Crafter has been running.
6. In the two unused shops, we are planning to add most, if not all of the new items in 1.8 into the shop.
7. In 1.7.10, Mojang added UUID support which most plug-ins have updated to, by doing this, it should mostly insure that everything you have will stay the same if you change your username after the update.
